Autencio Records Another Double Double, but the Lasers Fall in Newton

Lasell's Auntencio Records Double Double in Loss to Trinity College

NEWTON, MA- The Bantams of Trinity College defeated Lasell College in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night. Trinity College took an early lead in the contest against the Lasers of Lasell College in Newton. Lasell found themselves behind 25-9 at the seven and a half minute mark. With five minutes to go in the first half of play Michelle Royals (Torrington,CT/Holy Cross) had already contributed seven points to the visitors tally of 29 points. The Lasers brought the game to within seven with six seconds remaining in the half, with an impressive 8-2 run. Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) knocked in two free throws on a shooting foul in the final five seconds though to bring the score to 33-24. In the final seconds. Royals capitalized on a Laser turnover to knock in the final basket of the half settling the score at 35-24 to end the half.

Lasell shot 53% from the floor in the first half compared to Trinity's 39% as well as pulling down a team total of seventeen boards compared to the Bantams thirteen rebounds. Royals was the leading scorer for the visitors in the first half with nine total points and Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA/Westport) put up seven first half points for the home team.

The Lasers started the second half strong on a 13-0 run. At just under the fifteen minute mark they had brought the score to 37-35. At 13:51 JoAnna Bishop (South Burlington, VT/ South Burlington) sunk two free throws to knot the score at 37all. A layup by Ashley Fry (South Kingston, RI/South Kingston) put the Lasers ahead 44-42 at 11:17 for their first lead of the game. The two teams exchanged baskets over the next six minutes and at the five minute mark Lasell trailed by only one.

In the final two minutes Trinity pulled ahead of Lasell to end the game with a final score of 68-58. Danielle Autencio (Montville, CT/Montville) had a double double performance with game high of 16 points and 16 rebounds. Lasell's Fry and Vincelette added 11 and 10 points each, respectively. Royals and Emily Dixon (Norwood, MA/Norwood) led the Bantams with 15 points each, while Carly Napier (Pittsford, NY/ Pittsford Mendon) contributed eleven for the victors. Lasell shot 76% from the free throw line while Trinity shot a close 72%. Lasell also led in other statistical categories in the game including field goals, 40% from the floor compared to Trinity's 31%, and rebounds, 42-32.

Trinity continues their road trip on Thursday, December 1st at 7:00pm against Western Connecticut State University. Lasell also plays next on Thursday, at home against the Nighthawks of Newbury College in non-conference action. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
