Archibald Registers Double-Double in Loss to Saint Joseph (CT)

WEST HARTFORD, CT- The Blue Jays of Saint Joseph College of Connecticut triumphed 72-46 over the Lasers of Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

 

Lasell's Kim Archibald (Lewiston, ME) recorded an impressive 18 rebounds in the contest, to go along with 10 points for her third season double-double.  Freshman guard Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA) put in a team-best 16 points in the game, also picking up five defensive boards.  Sophomore guard Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) also contributed seven points and three rebounds while senior guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) handed out a game-high four assists.

 

The Blue Jays were led by four players in double-figures.  Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, CT) managed a contest-high 18 points, followed by Adele Ruel (Burlington, CT) with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Nathalie Mastarreno (Glastonbury, CT) and Chelsea Alves (Ellington, CT)notched ten points each and Mary Hyde (Derby, CT) was tough on the boards, collecting 10 rebounds in the game.

 

In the first half, the Lasers struggled to connect, hitting on only 19% (5-26) of their attempts from the floor while Saint Joseph created on 31% (12-38) of their opportunities leading into a 33-14 halftime score.  Archibald had six points and eight rebounds at the break for Lasell, while Diliberto had notched 15 in the period.

 

Things opened up for both teams in the second half, with each squad shooting 40% from the field.  Despite the even play, the Blue Jays held a steady cushion throughout the period and held the advantage through the final buzzer.

 

Lasell falls to 1-17 overall and 0-6 in GNAC play.  Saint Joseph is now 12-5 overall, while evening out to 3-3 in the league.

 

Lasell returns to action on Thursday, February 3rd at 5:30 p.m. in the Athletic Center for a home match against Norwich University.
