2010-2011 Women's Basketball Preview

NEWTON, MA- The 2010-2011 Lasell College women's basketball campaign is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in recent program history.  After finishing a disappointing 2009-2010 season ending with an overall record of 7-18 and a Great Northeast Athletic Conference slate of 3-8, the Lasers hope to turn the program around under the new leadership of head coach Carla Flaherty.

Lasell returns five players to their roster including three starters. The Lasers will look primarily to two starters, senior guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) and sophomore forward Kim Archibald (Lewiston, ME) to guide them on their quest for conference recognition.

Farr finished last season second on the team in points, tallying 258 on the year and was tied for the team lead with 37 steals.  She also led the Lasers in 3-point field goal percentage (.353).  Archibald had an outstanding freshman season with the Lasers finishing the year ranked 48th in the country amongst all Division III NCAA women's basketball players in rebounds per game, averaging 10.3 per contest. Archibald pulled down a total of 258 rebounds and scored 253 points on the year.

In addition, this season Lasell will introduce some rookie talent whom are expected to contribute significantly to the program's success.  Freshman guard Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA) provides a versatile swing player- capable of playing the point, as a shooting guard, or playing down low- and is predicted to see significant minutes.  Danielle Baroudi (Montpelier, VT), a freshman forward, and Molly Flynn (Merrimack, NH), a first-year guard, are also anticipated to receive considerable time on the court.  Baroudi will be a major threat in the post while Flynn will provide hard-nose defense  in the back-court.

Lasell also has the veteran leadership of senior guard Brittany Jefferies (Medford, MA), junior forward JoAnna Bishop (So. Burlington, VT), and junior guard Kara Hinthorne (Rockland, MA) as well as new additions sophomore guard Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA), freshman guard Anna Holcomb (Quincy, MA), and senior guard Tracy Elwell (Watertown, MA) to add depths to their ranks.

The Lasers' open up at home on November 16th, against Nichols College, at 6:00 p.m.
