Lasers Fall to RWU 53-51

Bristol, RI--The Lasell College women's basketball team traveled to Rhode Island last night to face non-conference opponent Roger Williams University. It was a great match up between the two teams and the contest was close for the entire 40 minutes.  In the end though, Lasell was unable to grab the win and fell to the Hawks 53-51.

The game was back and forth, with both teams taking the lead at various points in the first half. The Lasers were up early with a 13-5 lead, however, Roger Williams battled back to take a two point lead entering halftime.   Lasell never backed down in the second half, giving the Hawks a definite challenge at the end of the game.  In the final seconds of the game, with the home team up by two, Lasell had a chance to tie the game.  Freshman Reegan Brackett (Scarborough, ME) drove to the hoop, but lost control of the ball before her shot.   Junior Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) was able to regain control and put up one last shot for the Lasers but it fell short, ending the game with a 53-51 win for Roger Williams.

Overall the Lasers played an outstanding game, with senior Tricia Culver (Northampton, Mass.), leading the team in scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kim Archibald (Lewiston, Mass.) pulled down nine boards and added five points. Sophomore Kelsey Converse (Laconia, NH) added seven assists and nine points in the loss.

For Roger Williams, Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) lead the Hawks in scoring with 11 while Kate Malenczak (Sayville, NY) pitched in with 10 points and four steals.

Lasell drops to 0-5 overall, while Roger Williams improves to 2-4.  The Lasers will face Wheelock College here, December 5th at 1 pm. in their season home opener.
