Lasers Fall to Lions

Boston, MA-  Emerson College took an 87-55 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory from Lasell College in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Piano Row Gymnasium.  The Lions have evened out their record to 8-8 overall, 3-1 in the GNAC, and the Lasers finish the day with a 4-12 slate and a 1-3 conference record.

 

Emerson shot well the entire contest, finishing with a 40.4% field goal percentage as a team.  The Lasers took just one lead in the contest with three minutes elapsed after a jump shot by Tricia Culver (Northampton, MA) gave Lasell a 8-7 advantage.  Emerson's Lauren Zaniboni (San Diego, CA) quickly recaptured the lead in the Lions advantage by producing a three-point play in the paint.   The hosts ended the half with a 55-30 edge and maintained the lead for the rest of the contest.

 

Culver was the top scorer for the Lasers, tallying 16 points along with 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.  Sophomore guard Kesley Converse (Laconia, NH) converted three trifecta's and finished with 11 points for the Lasers.  Brittany Jefferies (Medford, MA), a junior guard, came away with seven rebounds, and sophomore forward JoAnna Bishop (S. Burlington, VT) added six additional grabs off the glass.

 

Zaniboni was Emerson's lead scorer and rebounder with 21 total points and eight boards.  Also hitting double-figures was Olivia DiNucci (Pittsburg, PA) and Kathy Andrade (Hull, MA).  DiNucci finished with 18 points, including four hits from downtown, and Andrade dropped in 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

 

Lasell returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, January 26th at home.The Lasers will tip off against Curry College at 6:00 p.m.
