SB: Lasell drops final two games in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lasell College softball team dropped its final two game of its Spring Break trip to Florida Friday afternoon at the National Training Center, falling to Carroll University (Wisconsin), 4-0, and Lakeland University (Wisconsin), 3-0.

The Lasers wind up their trip with a 2-8 record, while Carroll is now 9-6 and Lakeland is 5-7.

After returning to New England, Lasell is scheduled to play its next eight games at home on Taylor Field, weather and field conditions permitting. The next games on the slate are Saturday, March 23, against Rhode Island College, beginning at noon.

Game 1 – Carroll 4, Lasell 0

The Lasers managed just four hits in the game, including two by junior Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.), including a double. It was Spellman's fifth multi-hit game in nine outings on the trip.

Carroll scored two runs in the first inning, and added single runs in the third and fourth innings to secure the win. Sophomore Nicolette Genkos (Worcester, Mass.) pitched the first three innings and suffered the loss (0-1), and classmate Hannah Doherty (Hampton, N.H.) came on to pitch the next three innings.

Lasell's best chance to score came in the first inning when it put two runners on base on Spellman's double and a walk to Genkos but the Lasers left them stranded.

Game 2 – Lakeland 3, Lasell 0

Lasell could only muster three hits against the Muskies, including two by freshman Brianna Gendreau (Warren, R.I.) The Lasers didn't put more than one runner on base in any inning off Lakeland pitcher Lindsay Cudecki. Freshman Lisa Pare (Ellington, Conn.) also had a single for Lasell.

Sophomore Hailey Haskins (Franklin, N.H.) went the distance in the circle for Lasell and took the loss (2-3).
