Lasell Softball falls twice on Day Four in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lasell College softball team dropped two more games on the fourth day of the five-day set of doubleheaders Thursday, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 11-0, and Wesleyan University, 4-2.

Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning of the second game, but Lasell answered with two of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Nicole Arcese (Holliston, Mass.) led off with a single to center field, and two outs later, sophomore Sarah Kline (Vernon, Conn.) cracked a pinch-hit RBI double to center to score Arcese. Kline then came around to score on an infield error by the Cardinals.

Wesleyan took the lead for good in the fifth inning on an RBI single by senior Rielly Wieners (West Springfield, Mass.), and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning on a pinch-hit RBI single by sophomore Rachel Curran (Wakefield, R.I.)

Kline and sophomore Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) each had two hits for the Lasers. Freshman Allie Borowsky (Dalton, Mass.) pitched 5.2 innings for Lasell, allowing just three runs and striking out two, before giving way to freshman Hailey Haskins (Franklin, N.H.) for the last inning and a third.

Lasell managed just one hit in the first game against UW-Stout, a one-out single by Spellman in the fourth inning that broke up the perfect game performance by Meghan Kelly (2-0). That ended up as the Lasers' only baserunner in the five-inning affair.

Stout scored its 11 runs on 14 hits, scoring in all four innings at bat. Beth Wood had three hits to lead the Blue Devils, including two doubles, and two RBI, while Rachel Thomas and Alicia Meyer had two hits and three RBI apiece.

The Lasers (1-7) will wrap up the week at the National Training Center Friday, facing North Park University at 9:00 a.m. and Franklin & Marshall at 11:30 a.m.
