    Alison Saluti (Braintree, MA) of the Lasell College softball team picked up her first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) award as the 2011 All-Conference teams were announced on Monday. The sophomore pitcher was named a third team all-conference honoree.

The Emerson College Lions will clinch the top seed in the playoffs with an astonishing conference record of 22-2, and overall record of 26-10. The Lions played an incredible regular season, earning two critical one run games over conference rival St. Joseph’s ME in the first double-header of the season.

    STANDISH, ME- St. Joseph’s College of Maine shut down the Lasell College softball team’s offense in a back-to-back games at Richard W. Bailey Field on Friday afternoon. The Monks won outright in six innings, 8-0, with Maddie Kluna (Standish, ME) pitching a perfect game, and then picked up a 5-0 win in regulation innings in the nightcap.

    NEWTON, MA- Simmons College picked up two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) wins over Lasell College softball on Thursday, striking first with an 8-0, five-inning contest and then stealing off with a 4-3, eight frame game in the nightcap. The Sharks are at present ranked 2nd in the conference with a 21-11 overall and a 17-3 conference slate, while Lasell’s record slips to 9-25 this season, and 9-11 in GNAC play.

    NEWTON, MA- Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA) pinch hit in the seventh inning of game two of a double header with Pine Manor College and launched a three-run, walk-off home run over the center field fence to give the Lasers a 5-2 victory over the Gators. The Lasers had previously defeated the Gators, 11-3, in five innings in the first game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader.

    NEWTON, MA- On Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field, Emerson College swept a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests against Lasell College softball, 11-1 and 9-1, in five innings. The Lions, whom are currently ranked 1st in the GNAC standings, improve to 18-10 overall and 14-2 in GNAC play, while Lasell slips to 7-23 and 7-9 in league action.

    NASHUA, NH-Down 6-4 in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and one out, Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, MA) knocked out a grand slam over the right center field fence to clear the bases and ultimately lift Lasell past Rivier College, 8-7 in the first game of a conference doubleheader. The Lasers fell 5-2 in the nightcap to bring their overall record to 7-21 and their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) slate to 7-7.

The Blue Jays build up their record to 14-12 and 10-2 in the league after the two game victory, while Lasell dips to 6-20 overall and 6-6 in conference action.

    NEWTON, MA- Lasell softball swept Albertus Magnus today, upending the Falcons 26-2 in game one and 15-5 in game two. Lasell enhances their overall record to 4-14 this season and their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record to 4-2. Albertus remains on a 0-10 skid for the course of the season so far as well as 0-6 in the GNAC.

    NEWTON, MA- Brandeis University softball used 14 hits, including eight doubles, to secure a 9-0 shutout of Lasell College in game one of Thursday’s doubleheader and then added eight more hits, including five doubles, in a 9-6 edging of the Lasers in game two. The Judges were led by Brittany Grimm (Perkomenville, PA) who went 7-for-8 with three runs, four RBI, and three doubles over the course of the day as Brandeis improves to 11-12. Lasell drops to 2-14 after the non-league twin bill.

    Newton, MA- After falling in the opening game, 13-6, the Lasell College softball team prevailed 8-6 in the nightcap over visiting Norwich University during the Lasers home opener on Sunday afternoon at Taylor Field. A three-run homer by Rachelle Haas (Middleton, MA) and a two-RBI triple by Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, MA) sealed game two for Lasell who improve to 2-12 this season and stay level at 2-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Two home runs and five RBI by Joanie Ellsworth (Everett, MA) in game one gave Norwich their win for the day, leaving the Cadets with a 2-10 record, and 2-2 in the GNAC.

    BOSTON, MA- Suffolk University snuck by with a narrow 6-5 victory over Lasell College softball in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season opener on Saturday before the Lasers regrouped to run off with a 10-6 win in game two. Senior pitcher Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) picked up the Lasers’ first win of the season, tossing a complete game, giving up just three earned runs in the conference triumph.

Lasell fell in the early game, 5-3, against Richard Stockton and then dropped the nightcap, 12-3, against Washington College.

    Fort Myers, FL- Lasell softball’s plan to pick up their first win of the season today in Fort Myers, Florida was thwarted by the University of New England and Amherst College in consecutive games at the Lee County Sports Complex. University of New England took game one, 8-2, and Amherst inhibited an early Lasell lead rallying to produce an 11-2 victory in five innings.

    Cape Coral, FL - The Lasell College softball team opened up the 2011 campaign with two losses at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday. The Lasers dropped the first contest of the morning to Worcester State University, 8-1, and then faltered, 10-9, against Franklin & Marshall in the afternoon game.
  • Emerson Tops Softball Pre-Season Poll

    Emerson College, the 2010 GNAC Championship runner-up, has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball preseason favorite in a vote conducted by GNAC coaches. The Lions earned the top spot by only four point shy of a perfect score of 144 points. St. Joseph’s Maine came in second place, while Rivier, the 2010 GNAC Champions, just edged Simmons College for a third place finish. Lasell College earned a fifth place pick, followed by St. Joseph CT in sixth; and Mount Ida and Suffolk tied for the remaining two slots in the 2011 preseason poll.
