Lasers Give Back to the Community; Raise $400 for Charity

NEWTON, MA-  The Lasell College men's and women's basketball teams, in conjunction with the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), raised $400.00 in an effort to support two community causes during the month of February.  The Lasers first hosted two basketball contests to raise money and awareness in support of Haiti after two earthquakes hit and devastated the island country.  The second fundraising effort was in support of the WBCA Pink Zone global initiative to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The Laser women hosted their "Hoops for Haiti" game on February 9th and and the men hosted on February 11th.   The games were held in conjunction with a campus wide strategy by Lasell College to raise a total of $5,000 across the community for the relief effort.

On February 13th, the Lasers hosted their Pink Zone games in double-headers with St. Joseph's College of Maine.  Both Lasell's and St. Joseph's women's teams wore pink t-shirts during warm-ups to show their support to the cause.  All coaches and administrators adorned pink breast cancer awareness ribbons, and all the officials for the two contest used pinks whistles during the games.  All proceeds from the event were donated to the WBCA initiative.

The Lasers and SAAC raised two hundred dollars for each cause.
