Michael McGrane is now in his fifth season as Lasell's men’s & women’s cross country and track & field coach in 2021-22. McGrane has led the Laser men's cross country teams to a pair of seventh-place finishes and an eighth place at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships, while the women's squad finished 10th in 2017 and moved up to ninth in 2018.

McGrane coached the Lasers to a 4th place finish in the first GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2018, with two athletes earning All-Conference honors with individual titles. Junior Ben Lane won the 100m Dash and junior Ryan Dalaba won the 5000m race. Lane repeated his outstanding performances in 2019 with GNAC titles in both the 100m and 200m, and was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. The Lasers had five podium finishers at the inaugural GNAC Men's Indoor Championships in 2020, including triple jump champion Zach Kirsch, shot put runner-up Andrew Froio, and 60-meter high hurdles runner-up Jordan Robertson.

McGrane came to Lasell with a plethora of running experience and currently works with the Boston Athletic Association (BAA). Since 2013, he has served as a coach for the BAA Running Club and Racing Team and organizes weekly training as well. McGrane additionally recruits new regional talent and manages the content on the TeamBAA website and social media accounts.  He also assists the BAA with the organization of the Boston Marathon, as well as their 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Mayor’s Cup X-C events.

In addition, McGrane has acquired the USATF Level 1 Coaching Education certification and the Sprint, Hurdles, and Relays Event Specialist Certification from the Track & Field Academy.

McGrane was also the head coach of NAIA Mount Mercy College’s Cross Country and Track & Field programs from January - May 2001. McGrane graduated from Loras College in 1993 with Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master's in English Literature from the University of Northern Iowa in 1998. At Loras College, McGrane earned All-Conference honors in Cross Country and Track & Field in the 5000m and 10000m during his senior year.
