Three Personal Records Set at Saints Invitational

Boston, MA – On Friday, October 15th, Emmanuel College hosted the 6th Annual Saints Invitational Meet at Franklin Park. Twenty-four colleges and universities were represented by over 300 runners between the men's and women's programs. Johnson & Wales University placed three runners in the top five on the men's side, taking top honors at the race.

 

Johnson & Wales finished with a total of 40 points, with runners scoring in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 12th and 19th place.  Babson College finished in second place with 62 points, while host Emmanuel College placed third with a team total of 99 points.

 

Salem State University junior Alex Gomes took the individual honors on the men's side, setting a new meet record with a time of 25:59 in the 8k race.  The 2009 Saints Invitational winner, Greg Redfield from Johnson & Wales, placed second with a time of 26:17. Redfield was the prior meet record-holder for the men.  Redfield's teammates, Jeff Hartman and James Vance, finished third and fourth respectively with 8k times of 26:20 and 26:37. Babson College senior Kyle Fitzpatrick took fifth place, finishing in 27:05.

 

The Lasell men's cross country team placed 11th as a team, scoring 280 points. Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, MA) took top individual honors for Lasell, placing 46th overall. Not only was Taveras' time of 30:12 the best for Lasell, but it also set a new personal record for the sophomore, taking seven seconds off his previous career-best.

 

Also producing personal-best performances at the Saints Invitational were Raymon Donis (Raynham, MA) and Mikhail Krevosky (Oxford, MA).  Donis cut off 33 seconds from his previous time, finishing the 8K in 30:31, while Krevosky cut three seconds off his personal record, finishing in 32:31. 

 

Grant Vantine (Fitchburg, MA) set a personal season-best, taking 11 seconds off his race time from Pop Crowell, ending the course in 33 minutes even.

 

Senior captain Kristopher McCabe (Kingston, NY) was the third Laser to finish the meet, clocking a time of 31:13 while David Kananowitz (North Monmouth, ME) and Michael Isherwood (Warwick, RI) completed the scoring for Lasell with times of 33:41 and 33:46.  Jeremy Fay (Belchertown, MA) finished the course in 48:02.

 

Lasell will honor senior Kris McCabe on Saturday, October 16th at halftime of the women's soccer game held on Grellier Field at noon. The Lasers' next competition will be the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, held at St. Joseph's College of Maine, on October 30th.
