Lasell’s Men’s Cross Country Takes 2nd Place at Rivier

Nashua, NH-The Lasell College men's cross country team placed 2nd out of ten teams at the 2009 Raiders Invitational, put on by Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire on Friday.  Freshman phenom Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) led the way for Lasell once again with an eighth place finish, while senior Zach Lambert (Marlborough, Mass.) completed the 8K in 11th place overall.

 

Scully has finished first for the Lasers in each of the men's cross country races in the 2009 season.  His finish of 28:42 was just over a minute behind the first place finish, set by Joseph Rosenthal of Norwich University.   Norwich was the team that placed first overall as a team with five top ten finishers.

 

Lambert was close behind Scully on the tough 8K course with a time of 28:51.  First year athlete's Patrick Slight (Franklin, Mass.) and Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.) were also in the top 15 runners, carrying out times of 29:43 and 30:19 respectively.

 

Lasell's Isaac Soares (Somerset, Mass.) and Kris McCabe (Kingston, NY) rounded out the top 25 ranked runners.  Soares, a freshman, ranked 21st overall running the course in 31:17, and McCabe, a junior, concluded in 25th place with a time of 31:41.

 

Raymon Donis (Raynham, Mass.) competed in his first collegiate race for Lasell with a fine performace.  Donis took 33rd place at 32:37. Grant Vantine (Fitchburg, Mass.) marked in at 32:47 and the 35th spot and Mike Isherwood (Warwick, RI) finished the five mile course in 36:04 for Lasell.

 

Lasell will travel to Gordon College on Saturday, October 3rd to compete in the 2009 Pop Crowell Invitational in Wenham, Mass.
