Men's & Women's Soccer to Host GNAC Tournament this Weekend

 

Newton, Mass.-- The Lasell College men's and women's soccer teams will both host the first round of the 2009 GNAC post-season tournament on Taylor Field this weekend. The men will face Mount Ida on Saturday, October 31st at 1:00 p.m. and the women will host St. Joseph College (Conn.) on Sunday, November 1st at 1:00 p.m.

The Lasell men's soccer team finished the 2009 season as the second seed with an overall record of 9-5-3 and a conference slate of 6-1-2.  The Lasers fall second only to St. Joseph's College of Maine, who ended with a 7-2 league mark, thus edging Lasell in total points earned on the season by just one, 21-20, to take the first place spot.  Lasell won head-to-head against the Monks during regular season play in a 1-0 shutout on October 12th

Lasell will match up against neighboring Mount Ida College on Saturday during the quarterfinals of the post-season tournament.   Lasell defeated the Mustangs during the regular season, 2-1, on October 15th at Mount Ida. 

The Lasers' women's soccer team enters the 2009 GNAC women's soccer tournament as the third seed after finishing with a 9-5-2 overall and 8-2-2 GNAC record.   First and second place seeds fell to St. Joseph's College of Maine and Emmanuel respectively.  Lasell will host the sixth seeded Blue Jays of St. Joseph's College (Conn.) in the quarterfinals.

Lasell beat the Blue Jays outright, 2-1, during conference regular season play on Taylor Field with the game-deciding goal being scored in the final seconds of the contest by freshman striker Reegan Brackett (Scarborough, ME).  In the pre-season polls, St. Joseph College (Conn.) was selected to finish the season in 3rd place while Lasell was chosen for the 7th place spot.
