MVB: Lasers fall to 13th ranked Endicott; Sterenberg records 19 kills

Beverly, Mass. – The Lasell University men's volleyball team dropped their match Wednesday night, 3-1, against the 13th ranked Endicott College Gulls.

Endicott improves to 3-2 overall and the Lasers fall to 3-3 on the season.

Senior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) tallied a season-high 19 kills in the loss to the the Gulls.

Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.) led the match with 20 kills while hitting .548 and also added eight service aces on the night. The Gulls totaled 59 kills versus the Lasers 36 in the match.

The Lasers matched up well against the host in the opening set. The set was back and forth until an 18-16 Gulls lead. The home team went on a five-point run to create separation near the back end of the set. The Gulls finished the set 25-19

After dropping the first set, the Lasers found a way to fight back. Two kills from freshmen Brenden Joyce (Randolph, Mass.) and Jan Baranowski (Wheeling, Ill.) closed out the set tying the match at 1-1.

In the third and fourth sets, the Gulls offense proved too strong for the young Lasers. Endicott would go on to win the last two sets 25-17, and 25-11.

The Lasers will have a tri-match this coming Saturday, February 1 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. against SUNY Poly and the host, #2 ranked Springfield College according to the weekly AVCA national poll. The Gulls will host a tri-match this Saturday against MIT and Johnson & Wales (RI).
