MVB: Lasell powers past Colby-Sawyer for GNAC victory

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College men's volleyball team proved too strong for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) newcomer Colby-Sawyer College Thursday evening, defeating the visiting Chargers, 3-0, in a conference match at the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Lasers came out on top by scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-14. Lasell won for the sixth time in its last seven matches to even its overall record at 11-11 and improve to 7-3 in conference play. The Chargers, in their inaugural season as a varsity program, dip to 7-9 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

The Lasers were led by freshman Devon Francis (Springfield, Mass.), who had eight kills. Senior Nate Gallo (North Providence, R.I.) finished with seven kills on eight attempts for a .875 hitting percentage. Sophomore Conor Leary-Watson (Bethany, Conn.) registered six kills and five aces, and freshman Tejas Bhatia (North Smithfield, R.I.) had three kills and three blocks.

Sophomore Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas) and junior Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) had three kills apiece to lead the Chargers. Coffey added four digs, while Trevino had two blocks. Junior Zach Allen (Candia, N.H.) tallied a couple of kills and four digs. 

Both teams play GNAC tri-matches on the road this Saturday, March 23, as Lasell travels to Emerson College to face Emerson (11 a.m.) and Rivier University (1 p.m.) while Colby-Sawyer visits Emmanuel College to battle Regis College (2 p.m.) and Emmanuel (4 p.m.).
