MVB: Lasell drops GNAC match at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University men's volleyball team defeated Lasell College in three sets Thursday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Raiders won by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-21. The win comes after the Raiders upset No. 1 ranked, Springfield College on Tuesday. Rivier improves to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC, while Lasell drops to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Junior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) led the Lasers attack with seven kills and six digs.  Senior Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) led the defense with 14 digs. Sophomore Conor Leary-Watson (Bethany, Conn.) also contributed six kills on the night. 

Junior David Smith (Clinton, Ohio) paced the Raiders attack as he hit .450 with 10 kills. Smith was joined by junior Francis Kokoros (Braintree, Mass.) and senior Dashaun Graham as they both registered seven kills. Freshman Jack Normandin (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had four kills, seven digs and a block for the Raiders.  Junior setter Pedro Campos (Downey, Cali.) handed over 28 assists.

Both teams will be involved in upcoming out-of-state tournaments. The Lasers will travel up to Aurora, N.Y. for the Wells College Tournament this weekend, March 1-2; their first opponents for the event will be Daemen College from Amherst, N.Y. Friday at 6 p.m. and host Wells College at 8:00 p.m.

The Raiders will fly out to California for the "Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational" where they will match up against Adrian College (11-5) and St. Fisher College (14-4) on March 8th. The next night they'll face, U.C. Santa Cruz (8-13) and Cal. Lutheran University (4-7).
