MVB: Lasell wins GNAC match over Emerson

BOSTON – Junior Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded 11 kills and four blocks and senior Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) made a career-high 31 digs Thursday evening as Lasell College defeated Emerson College, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's volleyball match at Brown & Plofker Gym.

Emerson took the first set, 25-20, but the Lasers bounced back to sweep the next three, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13. Lasell improves to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC while the Lions drop to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in conference matches.

Soto finished with a .318 attack percentage (11-4-22), while sophomore Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) made nine kills with a .444 attack percentage (9-1-18). Seniors David Anthony (Cranston, R.I.) and Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) and junior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) added seven winners apiece.

Senior Nate Gallo (North Providence, R.I.) and Henriquez split setting duties, finishing with 20 and 19 assist, respectively. Gallo, Anthony and Waitekus added three blocks each, and Gallo also posted 14 digs.

Mark Piorkowski (Montclair, N.J.) recorded 17 kills and Josh Elliot (Swedesboro, N.J.) recorded 22 assists to pace the hosts. Piorkowski  added 12 digs and Samuel Willinger (Golden Beach, Fla.) contributed eight kills for the Lions.

Emerson welcomes the Newbury Nighthawks to Brown & Plofker Gym at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 16. Lasell will play the same opponent, but has a week off and will take them on next Friday, February 22 at 7 p.m.
