Lasell Men’s Volleyball player named GNAC Rookie of the Week

NEWTON, Mass. – One of the top freshmen on the Lasell College men's volleyball team was honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Monday for his performance in a pair of conference matches last week.

Freshman Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) was named GNAC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week after strong efforts last week, helping the team to a 1-1 mark in GNAC matches.

A 6-4 middle blocker, Waitekus averaged 2.0 kills/set and 1.0 blocks/set while hitting at an impressive .371 attack percentage (14-1-35) for the week. He recorded nine kills and no errors in 20 attempts (.450) while also making four blocks in Tuesday's win over Emmanuel College, and added four winners (.231) and two blocks in Saturday's setback at Johnson & Wales University.

Waitekus leads the team and is ranked sixth in the GNAC in total blocks (49) and ranks ninth in the conference in blocks per set (0.68). He also ranks second on the team and 13th in the conference with a .224 attack percentage.

Lasell, 6-16 overall and 3-4 in the GNAC, plays conference home matches this week on Tuesday, March 27, against Rivier University (7:00 p.m.) and Thursday, March 29, vs Emerson College (7:00 p.m.) before a GNAC tri-match on Saturday, March 31, at Emmanuel College (11:00 a.m.) with Regis College (1:00 p.m.)
