Lasell Men’s Volleyball splits pair at The Clash at Kean

UNION, N.J. – The Lasell College men's volleyball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday at The Clash at Kean University's Harwood Arena, defeating Medaille College (N.Y.) before winding up the afternoon with a loss to #11-ranked Marymount University (Va.) 

The Lasers posted a three-set win over Medaille (25-21, 26-24, 25-22), before falling to Marymount in straight sets (25-12, 25-21, 25-19). Lasell now has a 1-4 record this season, with three of the four losses coming to teams ranked nationally in the top 11. Medaille is now 0-3 and Marymount 7-2. 

Junior Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) and freshman Conor Leary-Watson (Bethany, Conn.) posted seven kills apiece in the win over Medaille, with Aprea adding five digs. Freshman Cobi Moore (Hampstead, N,H,) reached double figures in digs for the Lasers with a team-high 11, and junior setter Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) finished with 19 assists and four digs. Sophomore Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) also made a pair of blocks. 

Nick Patterson led Madaille with nine kills, and Daniel Joseph made 11 digs.

Soto led the Lasers with five kills against Marymount, with Leary-Watson and freshman Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) hitting three winners apiece. Henriquez recorded 12 assists and Aprea posted a team-best eight digs. 

Sam Safley (13) and TJ Wiechecki (10) combined for 23 kills to lead Marymount. 

The Lasers continues their season on Wednesday, February 7, with a road match at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. at 7:00 p.m.
