Lasell Men’s Volleyball drops season opener at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Lasell College men's volleyball team dropped both matches in a season-opening tri-march Saturday afternoon versus Baruch College & No. 1 ranked Springfield College inside Blake Arena. 

Lasell won the first set versus the Baruch Bearcats 25-21 before losing their next three 25-22, 25-16, and 25-23.

Junior Nathan Gallo (North Providence, R.I.) produced a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs for Lasers versus the Bearcats. Freshman Conor Leary-Watson (Bethany, Conn.) tossed in 14 kills for the Lasers in his collegiate debut.

Baruch's Nicholas Godino (Plainview, N.Y.) had 18 kills, 14 digs, and hit .405 versus the Lasers.

The Lasers dropped straight sets against the 10-time defending national champion Pride 25-12, 25-10, and 25-13. Springfield hit .468 to lift the Pride to their third straight victory after a season-opening loss on the road to Concordia-Irvine.

Junior Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) produced a team-high eight kills, one assist and hit .353 versus the top team in Division III. Junior setter Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) tossed in eight assists.

Springfield's Kyle Jasuta (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) paced the Pride offense versus the Lasers hitting .833, including a team-high 10 kills. Mike Neary (Ventura, Calif.) led Springfield with 10 assists and one kill in the non-conference victory.

Lasell is back on the road on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27, in the Clash at Kean in Union, N.J., beginning with host Kean University Friday at 5:00 p.m.
