MT&F: Lasers wrap up indoor season at USATF New England Indoor Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lasell University men's track and field team wrapped up the indoor season Sunday at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track. The Lasers sent a contingent of eight men's athletes to the event.

Freshman Ben Abely (Stonington, Conn.) had the top performances for Lasell in a pair of sprint events, placing 17th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.44 seconds and 16th in the 200 meters in 23.66 seconds. Junior Ben Biello (North Dighton, Mass.) tied his season best in the 60 with a time of 7.65 seconds, and eclipsed his season-best in the 200 with a 24.37. Sophomore James Falzone (Waltham, Mass.) also competed in the sprints, finishing the 60 in 7.89 seconds and the 200 in 25.88.

Juniors Jordan Robertson (Warsaw, N.Y.) and Geralson Withrow (West Newbury, Mass.) also represented Lasell on the track, with Robertson placing 15th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.83 seconds) and Withrow taking 22nd in the 3,000 meters in 9:58.95.

The Lasers had three competitors in the field events. Freshman Zach Kirsch (Winsted, Conn.) placed eighth in the triple jump (12.07 meters, 39'7.25") and 31st in the long jump (4.92, 16'1.75"); freshman Andrew Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed ninth in the shot put (11.88 meters, 38'11.75"); and senior Nick Defaranos (East Haven, Conn.) was 16th in the shot put in a season-best 10.85 meters (35'7.25").

The Lasers will open the outdoor season on Saturday, March 21, at the Wesleyan Spring Classic in Middletown, Conn.
