MT&F: Lasell sets more school records in GBTC Invitational at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lasell University men's indoor track and field team set three school records on Sunday at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track.

Freshman Ben Abely (Stonington, Conn.) established the Lasell record in the 300 meters with a time of 38.26 seconds, placing ninth out of 33 sprinters. He broke the previous mark of 40.14 seconds set by Edwin Sheehan in 2014.

Junior Jordan Robertson (Warsaw, N.Y.) set a new Lasell mark in the 60 meter high hurdles with a time of 9.82 seconds. He bettered the previous mark of 9.90 set by DaShaun Hightower in 2013.

Freshman Andrew Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) set the school record in the shot put for the third consecutive outing. He recorded a mark of 12.83 meters (42'1.25"), eclipsing the mark of 12.35 meters (40'6.25') he achieved just a week ago at Brandeis University.

Abely was one of five Laser sprinters who competed in the 60 meter dash. Sophomore Nick Gird (Billerica, Mass.) was the fastest, finishing 10th among 60 entries in a time of 7.39 seconds. Abely was right behind in 14th in 7.43 seconds, followed by junior Ben Biello (North Dighton, Mass.) in 7.70, senior Massimo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) in 7.93 and sophomore James Falzone (Waltham, Mass.) in 8.08.

Senior Malik Francis (Kingston, N.Y.) was the top Laser finisher in the 200 meters, placing 17th out of 67 runners with a time of 24.36 seconds. Biello posted a season-best time of 25.12 to finish 28th. Junior David Jean (Malden, Mass.) posted a season-best time of 56.29 seconds to place 21st out of 37 in the 400 meters, and senior Kyle Mullen (West Newbury, Mass.) recorded a season-best time of 1:48.49 in the 600 meters.

Junior Geralson Withrow (Mystic, Conn.) placed 23rd out of 42 runners in the 3000 meters in a time of 9:53.59. Seniors Matt Holden (Methuen, Mass.) and Kevin Wallin (Billerica, Mass.) represented the Lasers in the mile run, Holden placing 27th in 5:12.61 and Wallin finishing in a season-best 6:51.51.

Freshman Zach Kirsch (Winsted, Conn.) competed in two jumping events, placing eighth in the triple jump (12.09 meters/39'8") and 23rd in the long jump (5.33 meters/17'6").

Lasell finished third out of six teams in the 4x220 yard relay in a time of 1:43.32, with the team of Abely, Biello, Gird and Francis, and the contingent of Jean, Holden, Kirsch and Robertson placed eighth in the 4x440 yard relay in 4:00.06.

The Lasers will compete again on Saturday, January 25, at the Art Farnham Invitational at MIT.
