NEWTON, Mass. – A senior captain on the Lasell College men's track and field and cross country teams has been honored for his successful accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the track.

Senior Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) has been voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Lane was named to the Academic All-District Team for District I in NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country, and is now eligible for selection to the Division III Academic All-America team, which will be announced next month.

A four-year veteran and two-year captain of Lasell's indoor and outdoor track teams, Lane won his second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships this spring in both 100m and 200m dashes. He qualified for and competed in the New England Division 3 Outdoor Championships in 2019, placing 25th in the 100m and 29th in 200m. Lane owns school records in 60m and 200m (indoor) and 100m and 200m (outdoor) as well as four relay records. He studied in the Lasell Honors Program and completed internships at Harvard University and the Newton Boys & Girls Club. Lane wrapped up his career as Lasell's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

This year's NCAA Division III District I Team, representing Mass., Maine, N.H., Vermont, includes four student-athletes from MIT, three from Middlebury College, two from Tufts University, and one each from Amherst College, the University of Southern Maine, and Lasell College.

To be eligible for the Google Cloud Academic All-America program, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).  He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.  Academic All-District First Team selections advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
