T&F: Lasell senior to compete in Division III New England Championships

NEWTON, Mass. – A senior captain on the Lasell College men's track and field team will be representing the Lasers this weekend, May 3-4, at the Division III New England Championships at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Sprinter Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) will compete for the Lasers in the 100 and 200 meter dash events. He will make his second appearance at the New England Championships, having also competed in the 200 meters in 2017. Lane went into the 200m in 2017 with a qualifying mark of 22.84 to be seeded 38th, and won his heat with a school-record time of 22.21 and came in 12th place overall.

Lane will take to the track for the 100m trials this Friday at 5:30 p.m. The finals of the 100m are slated for Saturday at 1:20 p.m., with the finals of the 200m Saturday at 2:40 p.m.

Lane has been having an outstanding spring season, including last weekend when he captured his second consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships in both the 100 and 200. He lowered his own school record to 11.24 seconds in the 100 at the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT on April 20, and posted his season-best mark of 22.74 in the 200 at the same meet.

Lane's time of 11.24 in the 100 this spring is ranked 45th in New England for Division III, and his 22.74 in the 200 is ranked 36th.
