WESTON, Mass. – The Lasell College men's track & field team wrapped up the outdoor season Sunday by competing in the Second Annual Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, hosted by Regis College.

GNAC newcomer Colby-Sawyer College captured the team title, scoring 202.5 points. Saint Joseph's College of Maine was second with 149 points, followed by host Regis with (112.5), Emmanuel College (84), Suffolk University (60) and Lasell (25).

Senior Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) led the Lasers with GNAC championships in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, posting back-to-back titles in both events. He qualified first out of 11 sprinters in the preliminaries in the 100 with a time of 11.80 seconds, and captured the crown with an 11.55 in the finals. He ran a 23.48 in the 200 to claim his second title in a row.

Lane will represent the Lasers in both events at the New England Division III Championships next weekend, May 3-4, at Williams College. Lane has the 45th-fastest time in New England in the 100 this spring with a school-record 11.24 seconds, and the 36th-fastest in the 200 with a 22.74.

Sophomore Ben Biello (North Dighton, Mass.) also competed in the 100 and 200 meter races for Lasell, placing eighth in the 100 with a time of 12.59 seconds, and eighth in the 200 in a season-best time of 24.71 seconds.

Lasell had two entries in the 800 meters; junior Matt Holden (Methuen, Mass.) placed sixth among 15 runners in a season-best time of 2:10.56, and classmate Kyle Mullen (West Newbury, Mass.) was 14th in a season-best 2:32.11. Juniors Mark Payton (Barrington, R.I.) and Kevin Wallin (Billerica, Mass.) placed 13th and 14th in the 1500 meters with times of 5:51.14 and 6:56.08, respectively.

Senior Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) competed in two distance running events, placing 10th in the 5,000 meters in 18:33.48 and eighth in the 10,000 meters in 38:23.56.

Lasell had an entry in the 4x100 meter relay, with the team of Biello, Lane, Mullen and freshman James Falzone (Waltham, Mass.) placing fourth in a time of 48.28 seconds. The Lasell contingent in the 4x400 meters was disqualified.

Junior Alex Desharnais (Kingston, Mass.) finished 11th out of 18 in the shot put with a mark of 9.49 meters (31'1.75"), and 18th out of 22 in the discus with a mark of 22.97 meters (75'4"). Sophomore Anthony Nunez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 18th in the shot put with a mark of 6.87 meters (22'6.5").

The Lasers are led by second-year head coach Michael McGrane.
