Two Lasell student-athletes earn GNAC weekly honors

NEWTON, Mass. – Two Lasell College student-athletes were honored Monday by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their performances in the Laser sports action last week.

Senior Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) was named GNAC Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, and freshman James Anderson (Medway, Mass./Medway) was selected GNAC Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. Anderson received the honor for the second week in a row, while Lane was recognized with a weekly honor for the second year in a row.

A senior sprinter, Lane placed second among 15 sprinters in the 200 meters at the Wesleyan University Spring Classic in Middletown, Conn., finishing with a time of 22.93 seconds. He also took sixth among 20 sprinters in the 100 meters with a time of 11.54 seconds.

Lane is the defending GNAC champion in the 100 meters, capturing the event last spring at the inaugural conference championships. He also finished as GNAC runner-up in the 200 meters.

A freshman attackman, Anderson scored five goals in a pair of Lasell victories (1-0 GNAC), including an overtime game-winner. He scored twice in Lasell's 9-8 overtime win over Wentworth, including the game-winner in OT, and he tallied three goals in a GNAC win over Albertus Magnus College. He also picked up five ground balls in the two games and caused two turnovers.

Anderson is tied for second on the team with 13 goals this season, and fourth on the team with 15 points. The rookie is also tied for 10th in the GNAC in goals scored and tied for 22nd in points.
