Lasell Track & Field teams open season at UMass Boston Open

WEST ROXBURY, Mass. – The indoor season got underway Saturday for the Lasell track and field teams as a small contingent represented the team at the UMass Boston Indoor Open, a non-team scoring event at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The Lasers had five men represented in three running events and one field event, while the Laser women were represented in three track events and one field event.

Senior Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Ben Biello (North Dighton, Mass.) competed in the 60 meter dash for Lasell, Lane finishing in 7.57 seconds to place 57th and Biello in 7.80 seconds to take 82nd among the 115 entries. Junior Kyle Mullen (West Newbury, Mass.) finished the 500 meter run in 1:29.17, placing 28th.

Juniors Nick Defaranos (East Haven, Conn.) and Alex Desharnais (Kingston, Mass.) represented the Lasers in the shot put, with Defaranos placing 51st and Desharnais 54th among the 72 competitors with marks of 9.11 meters (29'10.75") and 8.79 meters (28'9.25"), respectively.

Senior Jordan Immerman (Tarzana, Calif.) competed in two events for the Lasell women. She finished 77th in the 60 meter dash in 10.03 seconds, and she posted a mark of 3.55 meters (11'7.75") in the long jump.

Three Laser freshmen made their collegiate debuts in track events, as Alahna Mild (Bar Harbor, Maine) ran the 60 meters in 9.31 seconds, freshman Grace West (Kennebunk, Maine) ran the mile in 6:49.54, and Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.) sprinted 200 meters in 30.62 seconds.

The Lasers will be back in competition on Saturday, January 12, at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
