DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshmen Kylie Danier (Waltham, Mass.) and Ben Biello (N. Dighton, Mass.) had the top finishes for Lasell College Saturday afternoon as the Laser track & field teams competed at the Corsair Classic, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
The Lasers were represented by seven athletes in the men's events and placed 10th out of 12 schools in the team standings, while the Lasell women had five competitors and finished 12th out of 13 schools in the team standings.
Danier had a strong finish for the Laser women with a sixth-place finish out of 24 sprinters in the 100 meter dash, recording a time of 13.46 seconds. Sophomore Allie Clancy (Beverly, Mass.) also competed in the 100 and finished 16th with a time of 14.72 seconds. Biello ran a solid race in the men's 100, placing 18th out of 34 runners with a time of 12.14 seconds.
Freshman Allie Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) competed in two events for the Laser women. She finished 11th in the 400 meter dash in 1:12.20, and took ninth in the javelin with a throw of 24.63 meters (80'10").
Junior Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) led a group of three Lasers in the 400 meters, placing 10th out of 20 runners with a time of 56.32 seconds, while sophomore Matt Holden (Methuen, Mass.) was 14th in 57.32. Junior Ryan Dalaba (N. Granville, Mass.) ran the 5,000 meters in 17:10.09, dropping nine seconds off last week's time.
Sophomore Massimo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) competed in two events for the Lasers, placing 24th out of 33 in the 200 meters in 25.42 seconds and throwing the javelin 31.48 meters (103'3").
Lasell was also represented for the first time in the men's 4x100 meter relay, with the team of Biello, Cugno, sophomore Kevin Wallin (Billerica, Mass.) and Lane finishing in 52.02 seconds. This establishes a school record in the event as Lasell has never had a 4x100 meter relay team.
The Lasell squads will be idle next weekend and will compete again on Saturday, April 21, at the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT. That will be the final event before the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships at Regis College on Sunday, April 29.
