Lasell Men's Track & Field sends contingent to compete at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Lasell College men's and women's track & field teams were scheduled to open the outdoor season Saturday, but the meet was forced indoors due to the recent winter conditions in New England.

Seven men and seven women represented the Lasers on the day, with some outstanding performances. Two Laser runners registered top-five performances in their events, one in a men's event and one on the women's side.

Junior Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) had the top performance for the Laser men, placing fourth out of 28 sprinters in the 200 meters in a time of 23.94 seconds. Freshman Ben Biello (N. Dighton, Mass.) ran the same race, placing 19th in a time of 26.03 seconds.

Senior Kyle Vonick (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished the 400 meters in 57.44 seconds; sophomore Matt Holden (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Troy Gonsalves (Providence, R.I.) ran the 800 meters in 2:20.95 and 2:37.32, respectively; and junior Ryan Dalaba (N. Granville, Mass.) ran the 3,000 meters in 10:03.09.

Sophomore Alex Desharnais (Kingston, Mass.) represented Lasell in the field events, throwing the shot put 8.32 meters (27'3.75").

Freshman Kylie Danier (Waltham, Mass.) had an outstanding race for the Lasell women in the 100 meter dash, finishing in a tie for fifth place among 29 runners with a time of 13.69 seconds. Sophomore Allie Clancy (Beverly, Mass.) finished the same event in 15.27 seconds, and freshman Allie Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) ran a solid 1:10.23 in the 400 meters.

Lasell had four entries in the women's 800 meters, as freshman Maggie McGovern (Worcester, Mass.) posted a time of 2:59.86, sophomore Karli Manship (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished in 3:04.62, junior Stephanie Seedorf (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a 3:11.84, and senior Shannon Hart (Mashpee, Mass.) ran a 3:36.93.

Lasell will not open its outdoor season next Saturday, March 31, at the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
