Lasers Continue Stellar Season at Eric Loeschner Invite

FITCHBURG, Mass. (4/15/17)- The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Eric Loeschner Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University this past Saturday. 

Freshmen Anthony Liriano (Elmira, N.Y.) and Alex Desharnais (Kingston, Mass.) got the meet started with the throwing events.  In the shot put, Liriano had a big day breaking his own school record, set only two weeks earlier, with a throw of 10.66 meters.  Desharnais followed up by throwing a personal best in the javelin, over 10 meters farther than his previous mark.  Junior Josh Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.) hit a season best in the triple jump, leaping to a mark of 11.18 meters.  On the track, sophomore Benjamin Lane (Rutland, Vt.) continued his stellar season to break yet another school record, this time in the 400 meters.  Lane ran a 52.34 to best the record by just .5 seconds, as his time was good enough for a 7th place finish overall. 

On the women's side sophomore Jordan Immerman (Tarzana, Calif.) jumped an outdoor personal best in the long jump.  Senior Ayumi Ranucci (Auburn, Maine) had an excellent day garnering two top 10 finishes in both sprinter events. The first came in the 100 meters where she earned a 9th place finish, and then came back strong with a personal best time in the 200, running a 27.96, placing 7thoverall.  In the 400 meters freshman Stephanie Amato (Westford, Mass.) and junior Lauren Lenahan (Weymouth, Mass.) both were able to place in the top 10.  Amato led the way with a solid time of 61.90, good for 2nd overall, while Lenahan followed with a personal best time placing 7th overall. 

The Lasers will be back in action next weekend in the Springfield College Classic hosted by Springfield College.
