Garifalos Hits Season Bests at Indoor Season Finale

BOSTON, Mass. (2/28/16) – The Lasell men's and women's indoor track and field teams rounded out the 2015-16 season at the Boston University Last Chance Meet and the NEICAAA Championships this past weekend on the campus of BU.

On Friday, sophomore Nick Garifalos (Spotswood, N.J.) and freshman Kyle Vonick (Wethersfield, Conn.) competed in the 500m event at the NEICAAA's. Garifalos posted a season PR in the event with a 1:07.44 finish, while Vonick was close behind at 1:10.16.

On Sunday, Garifalos went on to compete in the Last Chance Meet, and posted yet another season-best in the 800m run at 1:56.77. Garifalos was the lone DIII runner in the heat, racing alongside top performers from BU, Franklin Pierce University, and Coppin State.

Joining Garifalos at the meet was freshman Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Josh Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.). Lane finished the 60m dash in 7.49 seconds and later recorded a 23.87 finish in the 200m race. Nixon competed in the long jump event for the Lasers with a best mark of 5.85m.

On the women's side, senior Melissa Cooley (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Ayumi Ranucci (Auburn, Maine) both competed in sprinting events at the meet. Cooley bolted to a 59.84 finish in the 400m race, while Ranucci posted an 8.61 finish in the 60m dash.

Both teams will take a few weeks off in preparation for the outdoor season, and will open up on Saturday, March 26 at the Wesleyan Invitational.
