Records Fall for Track and Field at Beynon Invitational

NEWTON, Mass. (1/23/16) – The men's and women's track and field team competed in the Beynon Invitational Saturday afternoon at Smith College. Six Lasers ran on the men's side, while four women ran for Lasell on the women's side.

Sophomore Nick Garifalos (Spotswood, N.J.) set a PR in the 1,000m run (2:41.09), placing fourth overall. Garifalos beat out local conference foe Emmanuel College, and ran in a pack of top athletes from Amherst College and Middlebury.

Sophomore Josh Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.) represented the sprinters, finishing the 60m dash in 7.67 seconds. Nixon later competed in the long jump event with a best measurement of 5.81m. Joining Nixon in the sprint was freshman Ben Lane who participated in both the 200m and 400m race. Lane placed 10th overall in the 200m at 24.61, and finished the 400m at 56.38.

Senior Jeremy Shriber (Central Valley, N.Y.) and freshman Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) ran the 3,000m for the Lasers, Shriber running the race in 9:59.85 while Dalaba finished in 10:03.89, a PR for the rookie.

Sophomore Troy Gonsalves (Providence, R.I.) rounded out meet for the men in the mile run with a 5:12.71 finish as the Lasers placed 11th overall.

Junior Ayumni Ranucci (Gorham, Maine), freshman Jordan Immerman and senior Mellissa Cooley (Huntington Beach, Calif.) were the sprinters on the women's side, all making their debut for the 2016 season. Ranucci finished the 60m dash in 8.97 seconds, while Immerman ran the 200m in 34.19 seconds.  Cooley went on to set a new personal best and a new school record in the 400m dash, placing fourth overall at 1:01.52. Cooley also finished the 200m dash in 27.94 seconds.

Senior Jaime Russo (Watertown, Mass.) ran the 1,000m race in 3:31.34 to round out the meet, as the women placed 14th overall.

Both squads return to the track on Saturday, January 30 for the John Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
