Track and Field Runs in Smith Pioneer Invite

NEWTON, Mass. (4/14/15) The Lasell College track and field teams competed in the Smith Pioneer Invitation this past weekend at Smith College.

Senior Kyle Northrop (Bellingham, Mass.) highlighted the event for the men, running a personal best in three of his five events. Northrop shaved .1.24 seconds off his 2014 outdoor time for the 800m, finishing the race in 2:10.04. In the 1,500m, Northrop crossed the line at 4:33.22, while running the 5,000m in 17:21.23. Freshman Nick Garifalos (Spotswood, N.H.) dominated the mile, finishing at 4:50.42, while running his first 1,500m in 4:24.70.

Freshman Joshua Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.) sprinted across the finish line in the 200m race at 25:32, while recording a 5.66 marker in the long jump. Senior Tyler Schwabe (Ayer, Mass.) tossed the shot put and the discus in his first spring meet of the year at 10.43m and 31.91m (a personal best), respectively.  

On the women's side, junior Amy Macdonald (Burlington, Mass.) represented the distance runners with a 5:44.07 mile and finished at 20:58.49 in the 5,000m. Junior Jamie Russo (Watertown, Mass.) ran the 1,500m in 5:34.36, while sprinting the 400m In 1:12.53.

In field events, junior Heather Longley tossed the discus 31.17m, while sophomore Cassandra Stout (Plymouth, Mass.) threw the shot put 7.67m and the javelin 37.91m.

The Lasers head to Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday, April 17 for their next meet.
