Men's Track and Field Opens Indoor Season in Strong Fashion

Waltham, Mass. (12/7/12) – The Lasell College men's indoor track and field team opened their season with a strong performance at the Reggie Payou Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University. The squad finished in seventh place overall, narrowly missing out on sixth place to Keene State, while setting a new school record and several new personal records.

Freshmen Andrew Panther set a new school record in the 800M, finishing sixth in a time of 2:09.25 and narrowly edging out teammate Patrick Sponzo who finished seventh in 2:11.38. The duo, along with Kyle Northrop and David Cooper also helped Lasell to a second place finish in the 4x800M relay, posting a time of 9:05.2 on the evening.

Northrop barely missed eclipsing his own school record in the 1000M, while finishing third overall in the event with a time of 2:46.35. Freshmen Alex Weselcouch finished sixth for the Lasers in the 1000M, covering the distance in 2:55.91.

Rick Igbani set a pair of new personal records in the 55M and 200M, Christopher Cohn reached a new personal best in the 200M, while Joe Nusca set a new best in the 800M. Ryan McLeod set a new bar for himself in the 400M, while Don Berube achieved his career best distance in the shot put.

Lasell will be on an extended break until January 19th when they travel to the Tufts University Invitational.
