CAMBRIDGE, MA- Two institution records fell as the Lasell College men's track & field team had an outstanding meet at the MIT Co-Ed Invitational on Saturday. Antonio Nesbitt (Springfield, MA) picked up first place honors in the 55 meter dash and fourth place in the long jump to produce both individual records, while Stephen Petrin (Vernon, CT) topped all other competitors in the 200 meter run to take first place with a time of 24.33 seconds.
Nesbitt hit the record books in impressive fashion as it was his first time competing in the long jump this season. On his first attempt, Nesbitt marked a distance of 5.99 meters (19'8") to knock out the Lasers' old record of 5.31 meters.
In the 55 meter dash, Nesbitt replaced his old best time of 6.96 with a 6.87 second performance in the sprint event.
Petrin came up with his personal-best in the 200 meter and was just shy of beating the all-time record at Lasell. Tri Vo (Attleboro, MA) and Mike Isherwood (Warwick, RI) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the event with times of 24.8 seconds and 25.32 seconds. Both of those marks were personal-bests as well.
Shane Cardillo (Great Barrington, MA) and Boulos Abdallah (Watervliet, NY) came up with propitious results in the 55 meter dash. Cardillo finished in sixth place with a time of 7.11 and Abdallah took 9th with a 7.49 second run.
With a sixth place finish, and a personal-best, Richard Hawkes (Weymouth, MA) finished the 55 meter high hurdles in 9.74 seconds. For the first time this season, Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, MA) participated in the 800 meter run, cutting eight seconds off his previous fastest time and concluding the race in 2:10.5. Taveras took fifth in the event. Raymon Donis (Raynham, MA) followed closely behind Taveras with a seventh place finish, in 2:20.84.
Felix Villa (Bridgeport, CT) came in seventh with a 1:01.83 in the 400 meter run and Jeremy Fay (Belchertown, MA) came in eighth in the same event with a 1:13.65.
The field events were no less impressive at the Invitational, as JB Leger (Waltham, MA) and Hawkes followed behind Nesbitt in fifth and eighth place in the long jump. Leger competed for the first time in the event, hitting a distance of 5.75 meters (18'10.5") to take fifth. Hawkes improved on his best mark with a 5.32 meter jump (17'5").
Leger also took third place in the triple jump, with a 12.20 meter stretch (40'.05") while Ethan Genter (Newburgh, NY) followed next with an 11.92 meter jump (39'1.25") and a fourth place finish.
The Lasers return to action after a week's break on Saturday, February 25th at the Open New England Championships.
