The Lasell College men's indoor track & field team will open up the 2010-2011 season on Saturday, December 4th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith College Winter Classic.  This will be the second year that the Lasers have competed at the varsity level after an outstanding inaugural season in 2009-2010. 

Last year, the Lasers competed in five regional meets and had many athletes ranking in top spots along the way, as well as setting multiple school records.

The Lasers also started out last season at the Smith Winter Classic during which time six previous indoor school (club team) records were broken.  Highlights included freshman Matt Scully (Watertown, CT) running a 4:48.8 in the mile, and taking 5th place, and freshman Isaac Soares (Somerset, MA) placing 7th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:09.04.

In January, the Lasers picked up top performances in two relay events during the Reggie Poyou Invitational, at Brandeis University.  The quartet of Patrick Slight (Franklin, MA), David Walsh (Springfield, MA), Scully, and Ramon Donis (Raynham, MA) made up the men's 4x800 meter relay team, which set the new record with a time of 9:15.62.  Lasell's 4x400 relay squad, made up of Isaac Montoya (El Paso, TX), Mike Isherwood (Warwick, RI), Steve Petrin (Vernon, CT), and Zachary Lambert (Marlborough, MA) set the new 4x400 record with a time of 3:40.92. 

In the third meet of the season, at the Wheaton College Invitational, Lasell's men's distance medley relay secured their record, marking a time of 11:18.26, with Zachary Lambert (Marlborough, MA), Slight, Isaac Soares (Somerset, MA), and Scully handing off the baton in the race.

However, it was at the 2010 MIT Co-Ed Invitational that the Lasers produced four new school records in an outstanding season-ending meet.  Montoya produced two individual school records for the Lasers, earning 8th place in the triple jump with a record distance of 11.67 meters and running the high hurdles event in 9.40 seconds for his second record of the day.

Scully and Slight rounded out the Lasers' record breakers at MIT.  Scully finished in 6th place in the mile run, with a record time of 4:38.42.  Slight earned an 8th place finish the 1000 meter run, in a time of 2:51.10 for the record.

Petrin also had the top placing performance for Lasell at MIT, taking 3rd place in the 200 meter, running a blistering time of 24.56 seconds. 

Lasell picked up 11 new additions to the squad this season while also returning the talents of 11 veteran athletes.
