Lasers Hit the Track at Smith Tartan Invitational

Northampton, MA- The Lasell College men's track & field team competed this past Saturday at the 2010 Tartan Invitational, hosted by Smith College.  WPI took top honors at the meet with 183 points, followed by Amherst College with 155 points.  The Laser men finished the meet in 12th place overall.

The Laser men's team set two new school records in the relay events.  Lasell's 4x400 relay squad, made up of Isaac Montoya (El Paso, TX), Mike Isherwood (Warwick, RI), Steve Petrin (Vernon, CT), and Zachary Lambert (Marlborough, MA) set the new record with a time of 3:40.92.  The 4x800 relay team of Patrick Slight (Franklin, MA), Matthew Scully (Watertown, CT), Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, MA), and Isaac Soares (Somerset, MA) also set a new record, running the event in 8:47.

Top individual male performances at Smith included Scully in the 5000 meter run and Soares in the 600 meter run.  Scully took tenth place in the race, with a time of 17:15.78.  Soares finished the 600 meter with a time of 1:28.61 and a seventh place rank.

In the 55 meter hurdle event, Montoya and Mikhail Krevosky (Oxford, MA) finished in 14th and 17th place, with times of 9.42 and 10.03 seconds respectively. Krevosky also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 25.92 seconds.

Three Lasers put in strong showings in the 400 meter dash.  Senior captain Lambert picked up 16th place with a time of 54.94 seconds, and Isherwood was just behind him in 17th place with a time of 55.15 seconds.  Lasell's Jeremy Fay (Belchertown, MA) also clocked in with a time of 1:03.96.

David Walsh (Springfield, MA) ran the 800 meter event in 2:18.45 and Slight ran the 1000 meter in 2:53.70.

The Lasers will head to Cambridge, Massachusetts on Saturday, February 13th for the MIT Co-Ed Invitational.
