Nichols defeats Lasell Men’s Soccer

NEWTON, Mass. – Nichols College got goals from five different players Monday afternoon to defeat Lasell College, 5-1, in a non-conference men's soccer game at Taylor Field.

Nichols won its third straight game to improve to 9-3-1 overall, while Lasell drops to 2-8-2 on the season

Sophomore Simon Nigro (Simsbury, Conn.) got the Lasers on the board first for an energizing goal, his second of the season, just four minutes into the game.

That was it for the Lasers, who weren't able to muster any offense for most of the game. The Lasers had four shots in the first half, but none in the second half.

Nichols was able to tie the game up in the 10th minute thanks to freshman Evan Lemoine's (Rutland, Mass.) sixth goal of the year. From that point on, Nichols controlled the game, scoring two more goals from freshman Ryan Mangan (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Ali Ali (West Springfield, Mass.) before the first half ended.

Despite the best effort from Lasell's Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) who had five first half saves, Nichols held a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

Nichols added another goal right out of the gate from junior Chris Noga (Belchertown, Mass.), which set the tempo for the second half. The Lasers mustered a few chances in the second half, but couldn't muster much against the Nichols defense, and goalie Zach Suhoza (Clearwater, Fla.), who needed to make just one save. Freshman Axel Areiza-Betancur (Worcester, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a goal in the final two minutes.

The Lasers return to the pitch on Wednesday when they travel to Emmanuel College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup, kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Nichols returns home on Wednesday for a Commonwealth Coast Conference meeting with Curry College at 3:00 p.m.
