Albertus Magnus nips Lasell Men’s Soccer

NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Emmanuel Yeboah (Hamden, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 64th minute Wednesday afternoon to give Albertus Magnus College a 2-1 win over Lasell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer game on the campus of Brandeis University.

All three goals in the game were scored in the second half. Junior Diogo Cruz (Naugatuck, Conn.) put the visitors on the board just 20 seconds into the frame with a penalty kick goal just inside the right goal post. Lasell answered 12 minutes later when freshman Kyle Stewart (Webster, Mass.) made a nice individual move to create a shot for himself, then blasted the shot inside the left post from about 20 yards out to level the score.

Yeboah booted in the game-winner six minutes later, converting a lead pass from junior Matt Cotto (Stratford, Conn.) from the left side of the box.

Shots in the game were even at 13 apiece, and Albertus Magnus had a slim 8-7 edge in corner kicks. Both keepers, Lasell junior Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) and Albertus senior Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) made six saves.

Albertus, picked eighth in the GNAC preseason poll, improves to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-2 in conference play, while Lasell drops to 1-5-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the league.

The Lasers are back in action Saturday with a GNAC road game at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass. (5:00 p.m.), while Albertus Magnus returns to the field with a GNAC encounter Saturday Regis College in Weston, Mass. (4:00 p.m.)
