JWU Tops Men's Soccer in GNAC Finale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/21/17) – The Lasell men's soccer team dropped its final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest by a score of 1-0 to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales on Saturday evening. The Wildcats ran their undefeated streak to 13 matches with the narrow margin victory.

The Lasers drop to 3-14 overall and 2-8 against league opponents, while the Wildcats advance to 14-1-1 and 8-1-1 in the GNAC, and secured the number two seed for the postseason tournament.

In the 29th minute, Jozef Jennings (Barrington, R.I.) sent a through ball that Jazario Brimmer (Pembroke, Bermuda) tapped in for his fourth goal of the year.

Neither team would score the rest of the way, but JWU had plenty of opportunities. The Wildcats had a 22-3 advantage in shots, including 10 on goal, compared to one by the Lasers. Lasell goalkeeper Mattaeo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) limited the JWU scoring by making nine saves.

The Lasers wrap up their 2017 campaign with a non-league game on Thursday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m. against Eastern Connecticut State. The Wildcats wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when they host Rhode Island College at 4:00 p.m.
