Burhans Limits Brandeis in 2-0 Setback Finale

NEWTON, Mass. (10/25/16) – Freshman Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) registered a career-high 18 saves in a 2-0 setback to Brandeis University Tuesday afternoon at Taylor Field. The Lasers close out the season at 1-17, while the Judges improve to 8-4-3.

The Lasers held the UAA non-conference contenders until the 47th minute when sophomore Andrew Allen (Norfolk, Mass.) opened the scoring for both teams. With five minutes left in regulation, senior Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass.) extended the Judges' lead to 2-0 for the match result.

The visitors attempted eight shots on net in the opening 45, but were unable to get the ball past Burhans. On a solid performance from Lasell's back line, the Judges were caught offside four times in the frame to keep the match at a scoreless stalemate. Burhans kept Brandeis at bay with five minutes left in the first half, making a point-blank save on a blast by junior Brandon Miskin (Needham, Mass.).

Brandeis wasted little time getting on the board in the second half, as Josh Berg (Weymouth, Mass.) had a promising bid from outside the 18 that was stopped by Burhans. Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass.) sent a ball into the box from the outside flank that found the top of Vieira's head, who redirected the ball to Allen for his third goal of the season. In the 85th, Vieira converted on a far-post finish off a corner kick from Ocel to seal the 2-0 victory for the Judges.

Burhans falls to 0-7 on the year despite a tremendous effort in net, while junior Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn.) was not contested in 90 minutes played, and shifts to 8-4-3 overall.

The Judges will close out the regular season with a road conference match at NYU on Saturday, November 5 with kickoff slated for 1:30 p.m.
