Sutton Celebrates Senior Day With Lone Goal in 2-1 Setback to Ida
NEWTON, Mass. (10/15/16) -- The Lasell College men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Mount Ida College in Saturday's Senior Day contest at Grellier Field.

The Lasers move to 1-14 on the season and 0-8 in GNAC games, while the Mustangs rise to 5-8-2 and 2-5-1 in conference with the victory.

Prior to the game, Lasell College honored its lone men's soccer senior, Jonathan Sutton (Orange, Conn.) for his contributions to the men's soccer program. Sutton has represented the Lasers with respect, hard work, and resilience over the last four years, and his presence on and off the field will be missed tremendously.

Lasell junior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) nearly put his third shot of the game away in the 16th minute, but Mount Ida's Shawn Bernardo (Peabody, Mass.) made a defensive save to keep the game scoreless.

Freshman goalkeeper Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) made five saves in Lasell's net in the first half as the Mustangs held a 9-7 shot advantage and drew all three of the period's corner kicks.

The Lasers would take a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute as Sutton scored his second goal of the season on a free kick that clanked the right post and past Mount Ida goalkeeper Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.).

Burhans one-upped his save total in the second half, but the visitors scored twice unanswered more than halfway through the frame to take their first win since Sept. 17. Burhans  fell to 0-6 on the season, despite an 11-save afternoon that topped his previous high by two.

Freshman Jared Barroso (Central Falls, N.Y.) netted Ida's equalizer, his first goal of the season, off classmate Nolan Reimondo's (Portland, Conn.) corner kick at 71:28.

In the 76th minute, freshman Michael Porcello (Abington, Mass.) netted the game-winner for the Mustangs. His third goal of the season came unassisted, on a shot from the center of the box.

Despite scoring first in the second half, the Mustangs owned a 15-6 shot advantage and a 7-2 mark in corner kicks. Ford made just one save in the half and finished the game with three en route to his fifth win.

The Lasers return to action on Thursday, October 20 with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Pine Manor College. The Mustangs return home for their final two games, beginning next Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. against GNAC foe Emmanuel College.
