Regis Outlasts Men's Soccer 1-0

NEWTON, Mass. (9/14/16) – The Lasell men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Regis College on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 23rd minute from Regis junior Jefferson Lorimer (Lynn, Mass.) on a defensive scramble inside the Lasell six yard box.

The Pride (3-3) fired off 13 shots in the first half in addition to Lorimer's marker, while the Lasers (0-4) struggled in the offensive third with just three shots in the first 45. Sophomore Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) set up the contest opener with a quick pass inside the six, where the Lasell defense scrambled to get the ball out, resulting in Lorimer's finish.

In the 31st, the Pride had a quick range of opportunities to score, but freshman keeper Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) was able to keep Regis at bay with multiple point blank saves.

The Lasers switched gears offensively in the final half of play, outshooting the visitors 10-9. Senior Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) kept the Pride on top, saving all six shots on net in the final 45, including two sprawling stops on a direct kick from senior Jonathan Sutton (Orange, Calif.)

Burhans (0-2) recorded nine saves in the effort, while Santiago (3-3) saved all nine shots on net from the Lasers.

The Lasers return to Taylor Field on Saturday for a highly anticipated GNAC opener at 1:00 p.m. The Pride will resume non-conference play, also on Saturday, when they travel to Suffolk for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
