MLax: Lasers Come Up Short in Spring Break Opener

Davenport, FL - The Lasell Lasers played their first game of Spring Break down in Florida against Farmingdale State on Sunday, falling 13-9. The Lasers are now 1-4 on the season, while the Rams are now 4-1.

The Rams opened up the scoring just two minutes into the game, but the Lasers responded with a goal of their own just 40 seconds later off the stick of Landon Reyes. Over a three game span, this was the fifth consecutive Laser goal that was scored by Reyes. Over the final nine minutes of the quarter, the Rams would score five more goals, taking a 6-1 lead into the second quarter.

Four minutes into the new period the Rams extended their lead, before the Laser responded with a goal from Brendan Dean, assisted by Patrick Mulhern. The Rams scored once more before break, holding an 8-2 lead at the half.

After Farmingdale opened the third quarter with a goal, the Lasers started to mount a comeback. Dean would score his second goal of the game with eight minutes left in the third, and followed it up with another goal with three minutes left. Those goals were assisted by Nate Taggart and Kieran Oliver respectively. The Lasers would inch closer with a goal from Nate Taggart. The game was 9-5 Rams heading into the final quarter.

After the Rams scored the first three goals of the period, the Lasers got a goal from Jack Tauson, the first of the freshman's career. The Rams would get the goal back seconds later. The Lasers did not go down without a fight though, scoring three times in the final minute, with goals from Taggart, Reyes, and Adam Haytayan.

Brendan Dean led offensively with the hat trick on seven shots. Francis Pino led the way with seven ground balls, while Ethan Dallas led the team with three caused turnovers.
