Lasell men’s lacrosse freshman earns GNAC weekly honor

NEWTON, Mass. – A freshman defender on the Lasell College men's lacrosse team was honored Monday by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for his performance in a pair of Laser victories last week.

Freshman Tyler Rose (Springfield, Mass./Minnechaug) was named GNAC Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. He was a key player for the Laser defense, helping the team to a pair of victories which extended its winning streak to seven games.

Rose anchored a Lasell defense that kept both opponents to single-digit scoring while equaling a program record for caused turnovers in a game. He recorded three caused turnovers and two ground balls in a 10-8 non-conference victory Wednesday over UMass Boston, and he posted a school-record-tying seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls Saturday in an 18-7 GNAC win over Rivier University. He tied the program record set by senior David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass./Central Catholic) in a win over Mount Ida College last season.

Rose is now second in the GNAC with 15 caused turnovers, behind only Sheehan's 17. He has picked up 18 ground balls, sixth-most on the team.

The Lasers, 8-1 overall and tied for first place in the GNAC with a 3-0 mark, play two conference road games this week – Tuesday, April 2 at Emmanuel College (7 p.m.) and Saturday, April 6, at Norwich University (1 p.m.).
