NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 23-11 contest to Connecticut College in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Silfen Field. 

Freshman Charlie Bernicke scored four goals to lead a group of 12 players who scored for the Camels (2-0), who are ranked ninth in this week's New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll. The Lasers fell to 0-3 to start the season with its second loss to a team ranked in the New England top 10. 

Junior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) led the Laser offense with four goals and three assists, while senior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) scored three goals and senior Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) and junior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) added two goals apiece. 

McCormack-Kuhman scored twice early in the first quarter to tie the game, and Susi found the back of the net with 8:12 remaining to put the Lasers up 3-2, their only lead of the game. Conn College scored five of the next six goals and finished the first quarter with a slight 7-5 advantage.

Lasell stayed close to the Camels into the second quarter, pulling to within 9-7 on a Madden goal with eight minutes remaining, but the Camels used three goals in 34 seconds midway through the second to capture momentum. The hosts finished the second quarter with six unanswered goals to lead 15-7 at the intermission.

Conn. College opened the third quarter with four straight goals to push its lead to 19-7 before Tomasetti ended the Lasers' drought with 19 second remaining in the third. The Camels tacked on four more goals in the fourth quarter before Madden tallied three straight to close out the scoring.

The Lasers used three different goalies in the game, with junior Andrew Modugno (Medford, Mass.) seeing the most action and making 10 saves on 25 shots in just under 40 minutes between the pipes.

Lasell is scheduled to welcome non-conference foe Plymouth State for the home opener on Thursday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m., weather permitting, while Connecticut College hops into NESCAC competition on Saturday, March 10, in Vermont versus Middlebury at 1:00 p.m.
