SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-6 decision Saturday afternoon at Western New England University in a non-conference contest at Golden Bear Stadium.

Western New England jumped out to a sizable 8-0 lead in the first quarter, with five different players finding the back of the net. Sophomore Brendan Lyons (Syosset, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick in the first stanza for the Golden Bears en route to a game-high five goals in the victory.

Junior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) led the Lasers with three goals, and senior Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) added a goal and an assist.

Junior David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a game-high five caused turnovers and picked up a team-high five ground balls for Lasell. Sheehan tied the program record for caused turnovers in a game for the second straight outing, which he first accomplished last season versus Johnson & Wales, and is the first player to accomplish the feat three times.

Susi put Lasell on the board, cutting into Western New England's then 9-0 advantage with 12:05 remaining in the second. McCormack-Kuhman capitalized on the Lasers extra-man opportunity, cutting the deficit to 11-2, but WNE added a power-play goal with 33 seconds remaining to take a 12-2 advantage into the break.

The Lasers opened up the third quarter with a goal by senior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) but allowed three straight goals to finish the period. Freshman Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal for Lasell with 9:45 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Lasell outscored the home team 3-1 in the quarter, but wasn't able to complete the comeback.

Sophomore Ryan Janovic (East Lyme, Conn.) and junior Andrew Modugno (Medford, Mass.) split time between the pipes for the Lasers; Janovic recorded seven saves to accompany Modugno's three.

Both Lasell and Western New England are back in action Tuesday evening versus NESCAC opponents. The Lasers travel to Connecticut College for a 7:00 p.m. face-off while the Golden Bears visit Amherst College for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
