NEWTON, Mass. (4/29/17) - The Lasell College men's lacrosse team capped off the 2017 regular season with a 16-9 victory over the Anna Maria College AMCATS Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. Lasell improves to 11-3, and a perfect 8-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2012 season. The AMCATS drop to 3-13, and 1-7 in conference games.

Prior to the contest, Lasell honored its seven graduating seniors. Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.), Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.), Hilmar Smith (Portland, Maine), Connor Johnson (Hampstead, N.H.), Pete Dolan (Pearl River, N.Y.), Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.), and Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) have represented the program with leadership and dedication, and will truly be missed next season.

The Lasers came out firing fast and often in the first, as Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) recorded three of his team-high five goals. Six different Lasers scored in the first quarter to give Lasell a 12-0 lead.

Anna Maria got on the scoreboard from Kyle Benning (Puyallup, Wash.) with11:52 remaining in the second. William Gillis (Reading, Mass.) and Austin Shindoll (Denver, Colo.) each added a goal in the second, before the AMCATS added two more, cutting the Lasers' lead to 14-3 at the break.

Anna Maria would see goals from Kurt Richardson (Narragansett, R.I.), Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.), Paul Mills (Auburn, Mass.) and Benning in the second half, but could not gain footing for a potential comeback run.

Salazar recorded three saves in net for the Lasers, while Andrew Modungo (Medford, Mass.) and Ryan Janovic (East Lynne, Conn.) had five and three saves respectfully. Paul Schwarz had 18 saves for the AMCATS.

Dolan and Swift each went 9-12 from the face-off X, and freshman Ben Werner (Boxford, Mass.) went 1-3. Tyler Cheverier (Deep River, Conn.) led the AMCATS going 5-17.

Swift also lead the Lasers with seven groundballs, as Lasell out-battled Anna Maria 40-25.

Lasell earns a first-round bye for the GNAC postseason tournament, and returns to action on Thursday May 4 at Grellier Field with opponent and time to be determined.
