Madden, Salazar Earn GNAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

NEWTON, Mass. (4/24/17) -- Sophomore midfielder Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) and senior goalkeeper Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) of the Lasell College men's lacrosse team both earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors, as announced Monday.

Madden is the Lasers' first Player of the Week this season, while Salazar took home his third Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season and his second in three weeks.

The awards come after Lasell improved to 6-0 in GNAC play and 9-3 overall with a 13-4 win at Saint Joseph's College of Maine last Tuesday. The Lasers also rounded out non-conference play at Trinity (Conn.) the day before, falling 13-7 to the NESCAC foe.

Madden scored seven goals and totaled 11 points over the two games, including his second hat trick in three games with five goals on six total shots against the Monks. He contributed to four of Lasell's first five goals in the contest, including two of his own in the opening quarter. The team's leading scorer with 28 goals in 12 games played this season, Madden also scored twice against Trinity, cutting separate Lasell deficits to one and three goals.

Salazar made 13 stops against St. Joe's to keep the Lasers' conference mark unblemished, while his 20 at Trinity were just two shy of a career-high. For the season, Salazar ranks second in the GNAC in goals-against average (8.47) and third in save percentage (61.3), while his 99 goals allowed are the third-fewest in the league.

The Lasers return to action on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m., playing their penultimate game of the regular season at Boston's Emmanuel College.
