Monks Can't Contain Gallant, Madden; Lasers Down St. Joe's 13-4

PORTLAND, Maine (4/18/17)  – Senior Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) combined for nine goals to lead the Lasell College men's lacrosse team over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe St. Joseph's Maine, 13-4, at Deering Memorial Stadium Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, the Lasers improve to 9-3, and stay undefeated in conference play at 6-0, while St. Joseph's drops to 4-8, and 2-4 in conference.

Lasell took control of the game early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead at the first, including two first quarter goals from Madden. Madden had a team-high nine points, tossing in five goals, and four assists in the victory. Gallant added four goals for his second hat trick this season.

After a scoreless first quarter for the home team, Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) finally got the Monks on the board, cutting the Lasers lead to 6-1 with 52 seconds remaining in the half. Lasell ran out of the gates in the third quarter, adding five more goals – two from Madden, one from Gallant, and one apiece from Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) and Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.), owning an 11-2 advantage heading into the final 15.

Senior Pete Dolan (Pearl River, N.Y.) dominated the face-off X, going 10-16 on the day, while Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.) was 4-5. Dolan additionally led Lasell with eight groundballs, as Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) followed with five.

Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) stopped 13 of 17 shots faced for the Lasers and improves to 9-3 this season, while Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) made 15 saves for the Monks, and dips to 4-9 overall.

The Lasers return to action on Tuesday April 25 on the road against GNAC rival and reigning champion Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m. St. Joseph's hosts GNAC foe Johnson & Wales on Saturday April 22 at 1:00pm.
